What an MRI covers
How a body MRI visit works, in logistics terms, and how that differs versus the whole-body MRI cash page. No prices.
Cash prices, where a sheet row exists, are on a separate page: Whole-body MRI cash price page.
What it measures
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) makes images with a magnetic field and radio waves. RadiologyInfo's body MRI page describes imaging of organs and soft tissue inside the body. RadiologyInfo's body MRI page says: "MRI does not use radiation (x-rays)."
The area on the order is the product: a knee, a brain, an abdomen, or a whole-body protocol are different exams. This site's whole-body MRI cash page is one product. It is not a price for every MRI.
This page does not say who should have an MRI.
How the exam is done
You lie on a table that moves into the scanner. The machine is loud, and the order may include contrast given through a vein. Tell the facility about metal implants, devices, and any contrast allergy the facility asks about. The cited page does not give one visit length for every exam.
Prep and fasting
Preparation is set by the facility for that appointment. This page does not restate prep steps. The RadiologyInfo page in Sources has its own preparation section.
How long results usually take
A radiologist reads the images and issues a report. RadiologyInfo does not publish one clock time for every facility. Use the window on the cash offer.
How to compare cash prices
Line up the same exam name, what the visit includes, the date the price was checked, and any physician-order fee the offer states. This page does not list amounts. See how to compare scan prices.
Compare whole-body offers with whole-body offers. A price for a single body area is a different product.
